Timing the fires and their delivery is the focus of the Plan Phase because it sets the tempo and sequence for all fire support actions to align with the maneuver and target windows. Establishing timing determines when initial fires go in, how long to hold or shift priorities, and how updates or changes will be synchronized with the supported unit’s actions. This ensures fires arrive exactly when and where they’re needed and avoids conflicts with friendly moves. The other activities described—like following a generic seven-step procedure, briefing the FiST Fire Support Plan, or passing updates to the Gun Fire Controller—are related tasks but do not define the primary planning action of coordinating the schedule and timing of fires.
